Retinol Firming Serum & Tightening Booster

One works tonight. One works over months. Use both.

Most firming products pick a side. Instant-effect formulas look impressive for an evening and do nothing lasting. Retinol does the opposite — genuinely changes how skin looks over time, but asks you to wait weeks for it. This set runs both at once, which is how firming routines are actually structured in clinics.

The Tightening Booster is the immediate half. Skin looks visibly smoother and more taut, and the effect is noticeable within minutes. Use it before an event, a shoot, or a morning you need to look like you slept.

The Firming Serum is the long half. Retinol is the most researched ingredient in skincare, with four decades of evidence behind its effect on the appearance of fine lines, texture and firmness. It doesn't do anything dramatic on night one. Between weeks four and twelve, people notice.

How to use

Booster: morning or before an occasion, on clean skin, before moisturiser and SPF. Apply to a still face and let it set — the finish is best if you don't move or layer over it too quickly.

Serum: at night only. Start twice a week, build to every second night, then nightly if your skin stays comfortable. Follow with moisturiser. Mild dryness in the first fortnight is normal and settles.

Don't use both in the same application. Booster in the morning, serum at night.

Sunscreen is not optional here. Retinol increases UV sensitivity. SPF 50+ every morning, especially in Australia.

Before you start

Patch test and wait 24 hours. Don't use retinol if you're pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding — check with your GP. Hold off on layering with exfoliating acids or vitamin C until you know how your skin responds, and pause after peels, laser or waxing. If you use the ClearPore Pro, leave 24 hours between a suction session and a retinol night.

How to use

Retinol Serum

At night only, after cleansing and toner, on dry skin. Apply a pea-sized amount to the face, avoiding the eyelids and lash line. Follow with moisturiser.

Start every second night for the first two weeks. If your skin stays comfortable, build to nightly. Going faster doesn't get you results sooner — it just gets you irritated.

You'll feel a tingle as it absorbs. That's the A-Shot micro-spicules, and the brand describes it as normal. It settles within a minute or two.

Sunscreen the next morning is not optional. Retinol increases UV sensitivity, and in Australia that matters more than most places. SPF 50+.

Retinaldehyde Booster

At night, after the serum, or on its own. Apply a small amount to areas you want to focus on — around the mouth, the forehead, along the jaw. Follow with moisturiser.

Retinaldehyde is a step stronger than retinol, so start twice a week and build slowly from there. If you're new to retinoids, use the serum on its own for a fortnight before adding this.

Same tingle, same sunscreen rule.

Using both

Serum first, booster second, then moisturiser. Some people prefer to alternate nights rather than layer — serum one night, booster the next. Both work; layering is stronger, alternating is gentler.

What to expect

Mild dryness or flaking in the first two weeks is normal as your skin adjusts. Results build gradually — most people notice a change somewhere between weeks four and twelve, and it keeps improving as long as you keep going.

Before you start

Patch test on your inner forearm and wait 24 hours.

Don't use retinoids if you're pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding — speak to your GP first.

Avoid layering with exfoliating acids or vitamin C in the same routine until you know how your skin responds. Pause after any peel, laser or waxing.

If you use the ClearPore Pro, leave at least 24 hours between a suction session and a retinoid night.

Stop if you get persistent burning, stinging or redness that doesn't settle.
